Ministry-approved title: Mechanical Engineering Technology
The Mechanical Engineering Technology program provides students with the ability and confidence to seek opportunities and provide support within the dynamic world of engineering, including in the automotive, energy generation, construction, and manufacturing sectors. Your future role may steer you towards a career in design, metal and non-metal fabrication including machining and 3D printing, or technical support.
Students in the co-op program will have the opportunity to gain real-world experience during two four-month, paid work terms totaling 840 hours.
Students will also put their skills to the test in Durham College’s modern facilities, including the Integrated Manufacturing Centre, which excel in the delivery of Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing (CAD/CAM), Computer Numerical Control (CNC), Electrical, Fluid Power, Precision Machining, and Measurement.
Durham College (DC) offers pre-admission assessment testing to mature domestic applicants to meet admission requirements in English and/or math. Domestic applicants that are 19 years of age or older as of the start date of their program, and who do not have the required program credit(s) i.e., Grade 12 English and/or Grade 12 math are eligible to take an admissions assessment test.

In the program's third year, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge and problem-solving skills in the Integrated Manufacturing Centre (IMC), a world-class on-campus training facility.
Graduates are eligible for membership with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.
Please note: students will be required to purchase green tag safety boots in order to participate in many laboratory settings.

Your learning experience will be complemented by an 80-hour field placement in your final year, which will enable you to work within an engineering-related environment while continuing your studies.

Co-op is an excellent way to build your professional network, explore career paths and apply in-class teachings to real work situations. Co-op is a model of education that integrates academic learning with workplace learning in fields relevant to our students’ academic and personal goals.
Students in the Mechanical Engineering Technology Advanced Diploma program will be invited to apply to the co-op option during their first academic semester. Entrance to the co-op option is limited and the processes for securing a work term are competitive. Students enrolled in the co-op option are required to complete two four-month, paid work terms totaling 840 hours. Work terms are scheduled between semesters two and three and four and five of the program.
Supports are available through the Experiential Learning office to assist students with securing their work terms. In addition, the Experiential Learning office is in contact with co-op students and their employers during the work terms to help with any questions.

Once transferred to the co-op option of a program, students will have a co-op administrative fee of $475 per work term assessed to their accounts. The administrative fee goes to support the broad array of support services provided to co-op students. These services are dedicated to supporting student success.
